Immerse Yourself in Creativity at the Demuth Foundation

Nestled in the heart of Lancaster, PA, the Demuth Foundation invites you to explore the richness of visual arts through two distinctive museums: the Demuth Museum and the Lancaster Museum of Art. As a nonprofit organization, we strive to foster creativity, celebrate artistic heritage, and provide platforms for budding and established artists alike.

The Mission: Bridging Art and Community

The Demuth Foundation is a non-profit organization that operates both the Demuth Museum and the Lancaster Museum of Art in downtown Lancaster, PA. Dedicated to preserving the legacy of Charles Demuth and his groundbreaking work, the Foundation also supports local and regional artists while inspiring the next generation of creatives through distinctive exhibitions and engaging educational programs.

The Two Museums

The Demuth Museum

A master watercolorist and pioneer of the Precisionist style, Charles Demuth (1883-1935) was an early American Modern artist and a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Demuth Museum was established in 1981 in his former home and studio.

Today, the Demuth Museum offers a unique experience of Demuth’s artistic life and groundbreaking works through its collections, exhibitions, and educational programs that explore Demuth’s legacy. The museum is a member of Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Visitors can also enjoy the Demuth gardens, planted with many of the same flowers cultivated by the artist’s mother and featured in his renowned floral works. Visit the Demuth Foundation’s website for more information about Charles Demuth and a listing of the museum’s current and upcoming exhibitions.

Lancaster Museum of Art

For over half a century, the Lancaster Museum of Art has been a leading source for culture and education for people living in and visiting the Lancaster region. Established in 1965 by a group of artists and community leaders, we moved to our present location in the Grubb Mansion, adjacent to Musser Park, in 1979.

The Museum provides a facility for exhibitions of regional, national, and international artists; lectures; and educational workshops. We aim to foster an appreciation of the visual arts that respects and recognizes all, and present exhibitions as diverse as the community we serve.

Visit the Demuth Foundation’s website for more information about the Lancaster Museum of Art and a listing of the museum’s current and upcoming exhibitions.

A Unified Vision

In 2014, the Demuth Museum and Lancaster Museum of Art merged under one mission: to elevate the visual arts in Lancaster. While each museum maintains its unique identity, their collaborative efforts ensure diverse, dynamic experiences for visitors. The Demuth Museum emphasizes Charles Demuth’s legacy, while the Lancaster Museum of Art highlights community-driven exhibitions.
